The review material devoted to modern ideas about immunogenetic causes diabetes, changes metabolism violation carbohydrate metabolism, types and principles laboratory diagnostics accordance WHO criteria. Information on functional insulin deficiency presented. biochemical aspects hyperglycemia as main mechanism organ tissue damage resulting from protein glycosylation are considered. article describes metabolic pathways disorders carbohydrate, lipid, protein, water-salt leading occurrence glucosuria, polyuria, polydipsia, ketonuria, ketoacidosis other complications diabetes mellitus.
